Antique Camel Hair Mayaler (6'2 X 3')
This rare and exceptionally charming Malayer rug is crafted from natural camel hair and features a striking long hexagon-shaped medallion, enclosed within a rectangular navy-blue field. The medallion itself is woven with exceptionally soft, undyed camel wool and adorned with a captivating Salor trapping pattern — a lattice of rectilinear brackets framing staggered rows of abstract ornaments with distinctive pincer-like motifs. The lattice design is rendered in shades of blue, rose, and brown, all set beautifully against the gray-ivory tones of the camel hair background. The four corners of the field are emphasized in deep navy blue, intricately decorated with leaves, flowers, and other stylized ornaments in a diverse palette of natural colors. The composition is elegantly framed by a pale orange main border, flanked by two guard borders in complementary shades of blue.
The rug is in very good condition, featuring an evenly low pile with only minor areas of light wear. The quality of the weave and the density of the knots are truly impressive. All dyes used are fully organic, and the camel hair used for the background remains in its natural, undyed state. For added durability, the sides and ends have been carefully reinforced, ensuring the rug will endure for many years to come. Notably, it is estimated that approximately 800 hours of skilled craftsmanship were dedicated to the making of this rug.
