An exceptional example of a room size caucasian flat weave, this Soumak carpet features eleven complete octagon shaped medallions with famed sun-burst design and eight semi medallions of the same drawing. The strongly contrasted color composition of the rug with magenta purple, indigo blue, brilliant orange and shades of light blues and browns, all provide a wonderful palette.
This Soumak carpet has wear throughout consistent with its age and use. There are expert restorations completed by master weavers all around, some very old repairs. All sides and ends are original, all dyes are organic. Estimate time to hand make this rug is about 5000 hours!
