Antique Sarouk (6’1 x 4’5)
Size: 6’1 x 4’5
Circa: 1910
This antique Sarouk is a stunning representation of masterful Persian craftsmanship. Woven entirely by hand, it showcases beautiful examples of abrash — subtle variations in color that enhance its artistic charm. The rug’s uncommon size and exceptional quality suggest it may have been specially commissioned for someone of notable status. The design features elegant floral bouquets, arranged in a central medallion that gracefully transitions into complementary botanical patterns on either side. The composition is framed by a rich blue main border, accented with two delicate guard borders, creating a balanced and sophisticated look.
Despite its age, this piece has been gently preserved, showing minimal signs of wear, with only slight end loss. Both selvages remain intact in their original form. The rug is crafted from hand-spun wool, dyed with natural, organic pigments. Impressively, it took approximately 1,100 hours to complete — a true testament to the artisan's skill and dedication.
