This stunning antique Farahan carpet showcases an intricately woven design with a soft, pale orange field, highlighted by an indigo blue and ivory floral diamond medallion adorned with two graceful pendants. The medallion is framed by bold, elegant arabesques, while the field bursts with a vibrant array of floral motifs in shades of soft green, deep and light blues, brown, ivory, and more. Each corner features ivory-ground triangular panels, each blooming with charming floral bouquets. The rug’s color palette — a harmonious blend of pale orange, ivory, and brown — contrasts beautifully with the main border’s rich, dark purple-blue background, adorned with classic palmette motifs. This is further enhanced by two light red guard borders, intricately woven with Boteh (paisley) and carnation designs.
Despite its age, the rug remains in remarkable condition, featuring an evenly low pile with minor, scattered wear. A few small, expertly executed restorations are nearly impossible to detect. The rug’s knot count is exceptionally high — so fine that it could be mistaken for a silk rug — and the wool quality is superb. All dyes are undoubtedly organic, contributing to the rug’s enduring beauty. Impressively, all sides and ends remain original. It’s estimated that crafting this masterpiece by hand took around 1,400 hours.
