Antique Silk and Wool Turkish Kilim (5'8 X 4'7)
Antique Silk and Wool Turkish Kilim (5'8 X 4'7)
This is an exceptionally rare antique Turkish kilim, the only silk and wool piece in our collection, and was formerly part of a U.S. ambassador’s collection in Turkey. It is woven in two separate parts and hand-stitched together. Its design features twelve strips, each adorned with ten diamond-shaped motifs in a vibrant array of colors. The wool weaving is set against an undyed ivory silk background. This piece is attributed to Van Lake in Eastern Turkey, a region known for its masterful flat-weave carpet workshops.
Despite its age and use, this kilim remains in good condition with no restorations. All sides and ends are original, and the dyes are entirely natural. The estimated time to handcraft this masterpiece is approximately 1,200 hours.
