Antique Spanish Oushak (8'2 X 7'6)
Antique Spanish Oushak (8'2 X 7'6)
This distinctive antique carpet, hand-knotted in Spain, showcases an early Spanish weaving technique that sets it apart from rugs of other regions. This method, known as single-warp weaving, creates smooth diagonal lines rather than perfectly even vertical ones.
The rug’s design is set against a rich blue-green field adorned with intricate motifs, including flowers, palmettes, vases, and leaves in shades of beige, orange, terracotta, light green, and other harmonious hues. A striking terracotta main border, complemented by several guard borders, frames the piece beautifully.
In excellent condition with no restorations, this carpet retains its original sides and ends. All dyes used are organic, ensuring the vibrancy of its colors. The estimated time required to hand-knot this masterpiece is approximately 2,500 hours.
