Antique Tehran (6'4 X 4'5)
This exceptionally fine knotted rug is attributed to a workshop in Tehran and is most likely the work of a single skilled artisan. The weaver drew inspiration from various rug-making cities, incorporating elements of their design, color palette, and weaving techniques. The central design, for instance, is the historic Mina Khani pattern, which originated in 17th-century Isfahan during the Safavid dynasty.
Despite its age, this antique Tehran rug remains in excellent condition. There are only minor areas of low pile, with all sides and ends preserved in their original state. The dyes used throughout the piece are entirely organic, and no restoration work has been identified. It’s estimated that approximately 1,200 hours were required to complete this intricate hand-knotted masterpiece.
