The madder red (made from madder root) field of this exceptionally fine Tekke Turkmen rug contains three rows of three Tekke tribal gols (medallion shapes). The minor gol depicted on this rug referred to as the Gurbaghe gol and is thought to represent either two major groups or sub-tribes of the Tekke.
This highly collectable Turkmen piece is in incredible shape considering its age, with evenly low pile. Lamb wool is used to make the rug is super soft, hand spun and dyed with organic elements. All sides and ends are original. The rug has no restorations. Estimated time to hand knot this rug is about 600 hours. This rug was acquired from the estate of a local attorney and was a gift from late Mayor Edward J. Kelly of Chicago.
