This rare, handsome, antique, tribal kilim depicts a bold geometric design of three diamond-shaped medallions with checker centers enclosed by successively larger medallions. The outer diamonds are incomplete in a characteristic and daring kilim design. The multicolored field of white, orange, red, light blue, turquoise, teal blue, tan, green, and indigo blue gives this kilim a striking appeal.
The technique in which this kilim was woven is called "slit tapestry". To minimize the slits, the weaver has used super tight knots to make this piece one of the finest woven kilims we have seen. This kilim is in good condition with minor wears consistent with its age and use, and has few old restorations. All sides and ends are original and all dyes are organic. Estimated time to hand make this piece is about 1800 hours.
