This unique sampler rug is woven on a dark blue field with sky blue border which was made to showcase how a larger rug might look. Samplers like this one provide a means by which a design might pass from one weaver to another or from one generation to the next. They were also presented to potential buyers for orders of larger carpets. Samplers showed enough of the rug design that one could get an idea of how the larger carpet would look.
This sampler is in excellent condition with all sides and ends in original form. It was knotted with soft and hand spun wool. Estimated time to hand make this rug is about 600 hours!
