Antique Persian Bijar (12' X 7'10)
A stunning Bijar carpet featuring the highly sought-after Garoos design, this piece is handwoven in the town of Bijar in western Iran. Crafted from high-quality wool used for both the foundation and the pile, the rug showcases a central ivory medallion set against rich, dark blue fields.
The dyes used in this rug are entirely organic, derived from natural sources such as plants and flowers. The deep blue comes from indigo, a tropical plant in the pea family; various shades of red are obtained from pomegranate skins; gold and yellow tones are extracted from saffron, while additional colors are created using sunflower hues and seashells.
This carpet features expert restorations throughout, with its overall condition being appropriate for its age. Known as “iron carpets,” Bijar rugs are celebrated for their durability, capable of withstanding over a century of use.
