This exceptional square rug is a rare and unique piece, handwoven in the Serapi region of northwest Persia. Crafted from hand-spun wool and dyed with all-natural, organic colors, it features a striking square-shaped medallion, framed by simple angular vines and spandrels within a distinctive crab-shaped border.
The color composition of this magnificent 19th-century carpet is remarkably refined, with a harmonious balance that enhances its timeless beauty. The vibrancy and clarity of its hues remain astonishingly fresh, despite being over a century old. Structurally, the rug is crafted with a single cotton weft and a double cotton warp. It has undergone minor, expertly executed restoration by a master weaver, which is virtually undetectable. Otherwise, it is in excellent condition.
